Our Mission
The Mid-Atlantic Youth Anglers & Outdoors Program is an initiative of the National Junior Bassmasters Program and is designed to provide youth with an opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of fishing, warm water aquatic ecosystems, wildlife management and habitat conservation through instructional training and experiential activities. The mission of the Program is to improve the quality of life of youth and adults together, through exposure to the outdoors and engagement of discussions in quiet outdoor environments. The Program activities are designed to benefit elementary, middle and high school aged students through recreational, leadership and life-skills training.
The Mid-Atlantic Youth Anglers & Outdoors Program is designed to take advantage of the diverse outdoor and educational offerings of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, surrounding states and national parks affiliated with the National Recreation & Parks Association (www.nrpa.org).
The Mid-Atlantic Youth Anglers & Outdoors Program (formerly the Philly Youth Anglers Program) is a Proud Partner and certified agency of the Take Me Fishing Program (www.takemefishing.org). We are very thankful and appreciative to be only 1 of 10 organizations nationally to be awarded a 2011/2012 NRPA Take Me Fishing grant to increase our impact on underserved communities!
The current program activities are focused on identifying and preparing 8th grade and high school students (grades 9-12) to participate in state championship and national tournaments (see 2012 tournament dates below). If you are an 8th grader or high school student interested to participate or an adult that wants to recommend one or more students please contact us ASAP! Here are the 2012 Mid-Atlantic Student Angler Federation High School State Championship and National World Finals Tournament dates (8th graders graduating by June 23rd, 2012 are also eligible):
* Maryland / Delaware State Championship - June 23-24 ~ Smallwood State Park (Potomac River-Marbury, MD)
* New York / Ontario State Championship - July 14-15 ~ Lake Oneida (Syracuse, NY area)
* High School World Finals Open - July 18-21 ~ Lake Dardenelle (Russellville, Arkansas) (open to all U.S. and Ontario high school student teams)
* Pennsylvania / New Jersey - August 3-4 ~ Blue Marsh Lake (Reading, PA area)
A central part of our activities is developing fishing clubs at middle schools, high schools, colleges and youth-oriented organizations; preparing them for participation in state, regional and national bass fishing competitions. We are facilitating instructional training on fishing fundamentals in schools and camps during the Spring and Summer months, so please feel free to contact us if you are interested to have us coordinate one or more sessions for your organization or are interested in forming a club.
